Jarrod Mulholland – Founder & Electrician
I began my career in the electrical trade in 2010 as an apprentice, working in the solar industry. During my early years, I gained hands-on experience installing solar systems and learning the fundamentals of renewable energy.
After some time in the solar field, I transitioned into the commercial and industrial sector, where I spent three years working as a second to fourth-year apprentice. This phase of my career allowed me to broaden my technical knowledge, develop new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of large-scale electrical systems.
Upon completing my apprenticeship, I decided to return to the solar industry, a sector I had always been passionate about. I loved the idea of helping people reduce their electricity bills while contributing to a greener and cleaner future. The impact of solar energy on both individuals and the environment motivated me to continue in this field.
Since starting my own business, my team and I have successfully installed over 6,000 solar systems. These installations have ranged from small 3kW residential systems to large-scale 200kW commercial setups. Additionally, we have expanded our services to include battery storage solutions and electric vehicle chargers, further supporting the transition to sustainable energy.
Looking back on my journey, I take great pride in the work we have accomplished. Every installation represents a step toward a more sustainable future, and I am excited to continue making a positive impact in the years to come.
Chris Cathcart – System Advisor and Customer Support
Meet Chris, the newest member of the Mates in Solar team. He has nearly 7 years of personal experience with his system, which includes solar, battery and electric vehicles.
He has been upgrading his own system over the years. Using a whole-house energy monitoring system and Home Assistant. Building up his knowledge, to achieve over 6 years of every single energy bill being in credit. Chris has also personally driven over 286,843 kilometres (but who’s counting) completely petrol free. That means no power bills, no fuel or gas cost. That is some serious savings for his family’s household budget.
Along the way, Chris has been learning and sharing his experience with all the products in his setup, with anyone who’ll listen. Whether it’s trying out the different offers available in the energy market or showing how to get all his connected devices’ data to show in one app on his phone, he’s nearly covered it all.
Chris now joins Mates in Solar as an integral member of the team, taking on customer relations. Not just selling and designing systems, but really explaining how they can benefit you specifically. He understands that not everyone knows energy systems like Mates in Solar do, so he’ll take the time needed to explain as much of this as you want.
